I don't use Hot Mail.  I have created an account for Yahoo.  It works briefly then simply freezes up.  If I attempt to download mail a few emails download then it just stops and I get this message:

"Something went wrong....

We're having a problem downloading messages. Make sure you have a connection and your account info is correct, and then try again.

Error code: 0x80040902"

I have a connection.  My account info is correct and I try it again, but I get the same message.

I searched this error code in "help" but get NO results.  When I check the internet I see comments that this means I don't have a valid OS, but I do.  I have no idea what this is all about and have to go back to yahoo just to get mail.

Even if I don't download mail, I cannot reply to messages I have in my inbox.  The mail app freezes up and is not usable.

If I reboot it may function correctly for a few minutes but then fails as above.

Does anyone know what this is all about and more importantly how to fix this?

thanks. for allmembers help er

Hi,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

Sorry to know that you are facing this issue.

As the Mail app is not usable, I suggest you follow these things:

Ensure to install any pending updates and restart the computer to check if this helps.

You will be able to solve some problems by running a troubleshooter that will automatically fix some common issues with Windows Store Apps. Once this is done check the status.

Open the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter by following these steps:

  • Press Windows key + X and click on Control Panel.

  • Click on Troubleshooting and click on View All.

Click on "Windows Store Apps" troubleshooter to fix problems with Windows Store Apps. Follow the on-screen directions to run this troubleshooter and restart the computer to check if this helps.

Keep us informed to help you further.

Thank you for responding.  I followed your instructions but the "trouble shooter" found no problems.  Perhaps the issues is not related to the Win 10 mail app.   That might be a bit worrisome though.

I'm sorry, I don't want to sound ungrateful because I REALLY do appreciate ANY help I can get with this but honestly Win 10 Mail is driving me crazy.  I cannot get it to download any of my Yahoo mail folders even though I have verified my account numerous times and reset every applicable setting I can think of.  I also updated all of my account settings in my Yahoo mail.

I continue to get this "Error code: 0x80040902" no matter what I do.  I have searched and searched looking for a definition and cannot find one. Can ANYONE please just tell me what this 0x80040902 error is.

I know this sounds horribly naïve but isn't there a Microsoft point of contact to address these kinds of problems?  I apologize if I am just uninformed, but I feel like Microsoft has told me "Here is your new system that has changing pretty much everything about your mail.  It is wonderful and you should be smart enough to make it work all on your own." I don't understand why my Win 8.1 mail worked fine and my "new and improved" Win 10 doesn't.   It can't be this hard.  Can it?

Yep - me too!  And, it seems 100's of others.  Same error messages on HP laptop with 8.1 to 10 upgrade on Yahoo Mail - AND on my Windows phone.

PLEASE someone at Microsoft SORT THIS OUT!

Thanks in advance, of course.

I am having the same problem with Yahoo mail.  I'm not sure Yahoo likes it that you use a secondary mail receiver and bypass Yahoo pages to get mail.  I suspect the problem can be solved but Yahoo needs to cooperate.

Windows 10 has presented problems for me in more than one way.  My bank, my husband's work schedule, etc do not work with Windows 10.  I have to use Google Chrome to get this stuff done.

So I'm hoping that Microsoft will find an answer...It certainly would make life easier.  BTW I followed to Windows Store Apps and got the same message, no problems detected.

I use Outlook for my e-mails since I changed to Windows 10 it has stopped working unable to send or receive e-mails, the new Mail App in Windows 10 that tells me it cannot download mail as it has trouble connecting, nor can I send mail with that either.

I have tried running trouble shooter same Code  0x80040902  keeps popping up.

I have downloaded updates for outlook and windows to no avail

I am not a computer buff I use computers that is all, the jargon often used just confuses me more.

A solution in simple plain language would be appreciated, all I want to do is send emails via outlook and synchronise both outlook and the new mail app if possible, or if it is conflicting with outlook switch it off.

Thank you Confused Chris of North London.

I have to compliment you Chris as this is absolutely the best summation of the problem I have read to date.  I am very surprised to find that you experienced this using Outlook.  OUTLOOK?  Really?  One would think that a Microsoft product would work.  Go figure.  Maybe this is just something that nobody at Microsoft or Yahoo seem to have any interest in resolving.

I decided I would go back to Yahoo Mail and only look at Win 10 Mail when I forget just how frustrating it is to try to use it.  I do however suspect that some brilliant techie has found a perfectly good work around for this but unfortunately I am not fluent enough in "tech-speak" to find it, let alone apply that "solution" to my box.  I have given up on this and think perhaps my time will be better spent looking for a way to remove or hide Win 10 Mail so I don't get tempted to use it again.

I am pretty patience but given that no one seems to even know what Code 0x80040902 I am not optimistic that this will be resolved any time soon.  Perhaps someday we normal, everyday users will get a post that says..."You bunch of dolts!  Win 10 is wonderful and if you would have read the designer notes you would have known that all you had to do was hold down the Ctrl key while simultaneously pressing the Tab, Shift, Esc, Alt , and Win Key to bring up the fourteen hundred simple changes you need to make in your Registry."But surely I jest.   I suppose I am just keeping this open to see if my theory is correct or not.
